Or maybe just a toe? I hope my photo which was used on Outside Magazine's website is just the start of something.

The photo was one I shot last summer getting images for another magazine's web site that I never submitted to them (met my quota already). Then recently I was contacted by Dave Wiens looking for a photo of the 24 Hours in the Sage mountain bike race. I went through my unused images and found this one I had previously overlooked. I like it and I hope the good folks at Outside do too.

Plenty more where that came from! :)

Hartman Rocks is dry. A bit too dry even, but the transition from ski to mountain bike was smooth and instant this year.
It was a nice evening out there last night with some great storm clouds rolling through the valley.
This shot is from the Top of the World trail looking North at a spot I've taken photos before.

I was mountain biking on Saturday which is odd for January around here and I brought the camera as I often do. Near the end of the ride I was thinking I should have just left it at home because the light was no good and I was getting tired and cold. Then suddenly the light broke through and illuminated this squall over Gunnison and having the camera became very worthwhile! I forgot about being cold for a little while and got these photos before a very brisk ride home reminded me.
Sadly the storm didn't give us any significant much-needed snow, but it was enough to enjoy a little skiing at Monarch the following day.

We had two races at Hartman Rocks on Saturday, a brutal looking trail running race called the Pummeler's Butt, and the Growler Series final mountain bike race. It was a beautiful day and all the local hammerheads were out giving it their best. Many did both events!

With cooler temps and snow up high, everyone is coming down to ride Hartman Rocks near Gunnison. I guess I can't blame them, it has been pretty nice out there.

I had a short but enjoyable ride on my single speed (the one of my three bikes that didn't need work to ride) up to the Signal Peak area NE of town. Nice evening but a bit hazy - there must be a fire somewhere West of here. The little yellow flowers were coming up all over the place and I liked the color combination with this Indian paintbrush in the evening light.
The blown out sky is something I'm trying to accept for some shots. In this one I don't think it detracts much if at all. Do you?

It just keeps coming! What a great week of unsettled weather to shoot in! That was from last night's ride following the Growler series race course to pick up the course markers. Good thing I brought the camera!

I thought I might get wet or threatened by lightning on this ride, but I had to get out there. The light was surreal and I only got some light rain on me and distant thunder rumbles. I put fewer miles in than I was planning but took a lot more photos than usual!
The evening sun, wet landscape, and dark stormy skies add to to some really nice photo conditions. The firm tacky trails made for great mountain biking too!

Sometimes there is beauty or at least interest in very ordinary things. I try and keep an eye out for these pockets of beauty that are right under our noses or in unlikely places.

I caught the lines of the grate reflecting on the water out of the corner of my eye as I rode by this culvert for probably the 500th time and had to stop and get dirty to get the shot. I love reflections and shadows, so this was something I was excited to discover!
